Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we’re asked most often about visiting the 384th Bombardment Group Museum. Can’t find what you need? Get in touch.
When are you open?
We’re a purely volunteer-run museum, so opening days and times may vary. Please check our Events page for open days and events when you can visit us.
Alternatively, contact us before travelling.
Do I need to book?
No, you’re welcome to visit during opening hours. Group visits should contact us ahead of their visit.
How much does it cost to visit?
Admission is free. Donations are very welcome, and go directly to the Museum project. This helps fund the restoration of the site, to add artefacts and material to our Visitor Centre and to care for our collections for many years to come.
Where are you located?
We are located just outside the village of Grafton Underwood, near to Kettering in Northamptonshire. Being on the former airfield, the Museum site does not have a postcode. Please use the How to Find Us page for accurate directions.
Is there parking?
There is free parking on site. This is a mix of hard standing and grass areas, areas in use will be dependent on weather conditions. There may be a short walk from the car parking area to the Museum Site.
Is the museum accessible?
We’re working to make visits as accessible as possible. Please see our Accessibility Statement for full details, or contact us to discuss your requirements.
Do you offer guided walks?
Throughout the course of the year from March to October, we offer monthly guided walks. We have two walks, one covering the airfield areas, the other the Communal ‘living’ sites. Places on these walks are limited and need to be pre-booked. For available dates and to make a booking, please visit our Guided Walks page.
Can I bring my dog?
Assistance dogs are welcome across the site. Other dogs are allowed across the site.
We ask that all dogs are kept fully under control, on leads whilst anywhere on site.
Can I take photographs?
Please check with a Volunteer before taking photographs anywhere on site.
Are children welcome?
Absolutely yes. We very much welcome children as they are the future of our Museum project. However, we politely request all children must be supervised by an accompanying adult.
Can you accommodate school or community groups?
We may be able to arrange group visits or talks, depending on volunteer availability. Please contact us with your preferred date, group size and any access requirements and we will be happy to discuss your needs.
Do you have a café or shop?
We have a small Café within the Visitor Centre, with seating available. We offer a range of hot and cold drinks, snacks and cakes.
The Museum has an extensive range of merchandise available that directly supports the project, this is on full display within the Visitor Centre.
All merchandise is also available via our web shop.
Can I donate objects, photographs or documents?
We’re pleased to hear from people with items connected to our Museum’s subject matter. Please contact us before bringing anything in. We can’t promise to accept every item, as we need to consider its relevance, condition, provenance and our available space.
Can I volunteer?
We’d love to hear from people interested in helping. Volunteer tasks may include welcoming visitors, researching, cataloguing, conservation support or maintaining the site. See our Volunteer page or contact us for more information.
How can I support the museum?
You can support us by visiting, donating, purchasing merchandise, supporting our events, volunteering or sharing our work.
To donate to the project, please visit our Donations page.
