Museum Site Progress - an update

We're delighted to be able to give an update on the work that has been taking place on the Museum site recently, with great progress being made by the volunteer team.

The priority has been work on the forthcoming Visitor Centre structure. As we head into the autumn and winter months, prior experience has shown that the structure needs to be wind and rain proof now as soon as possible, to both enable work to continue internally as well as to protect the actual structure from rain and in particular, the wind.

Progress has been good over the past months and it is expected that the full covering will be in place, with the end walls bricked up, ahead of winter. There is much work to be done internally, from painting to the laying of flooring to necessary electrical work. This can hopefully progress through the winter. Off site, structures relating to the window areas are underway.

Work on the Operations Block has also continued, although with this being very much a long term project, the current priority is the Visitor Centre. However, the building has recently had a deep clean ahead of our next Communal & Museum Site Guided Walk on 27th September, to enable our visitors on the day to step inside this iconic building.

The Norden Bomb Sight Store has had a lot of time invested in it recently and it is now showing the benefits of this - undergrowth fully cleared around the outside, a fresh coat of paint inside and lots of other maintenance work to help preserve the structure for the future.

Elsewhere on site, remedial repairs have been made to the access roadways which understandably after 80 years were showing some signs of wear and tear. The battle with nature is ever ongoing, and the upkeep of grass areas is an ongoing job.
